Andrews HS Swimming Qualifies Nine for State Meet

ANDREWS, Texas –  Nine student-athletes will represent Andrews High School in two individual and four relay events at the UIL Swimming & Diving State Championships next weekend in Austin. 

 

Junior Rebecca Robertson set the meet record in the girls 200 freestyle with a time of 1:53.35. Robertson took home the silver medal in the 100 freestyle and will compete at the state meet in both events. Robertson set new school records in each event. 

 

Landyn Brewer, Wyatt Bennett, Tucker Walker and Brenden Ferguson captured the silver in the boys 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays, clinching a spot at the state meet in both events.  

 

The girls 200 freestyle relay of Robertson, Grace Shaffer, Amelia Liming and Mary Murphy will travel to Austin for the state meet after finishing second in the region.

 

The Girls 200 medley relay of Haley Gafford, Shaffer, Liming and Murphy took third place at the regional meet, setting a new school record by 2 seconds. They also clinched a wild card spot in the state meet. 

 

There were eight school records broken at the regional meet. Senior Grace Shaffer broke a 35-year old record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:03.44. 

 

The boys team finished 3rd overall while the girls finished 4th overall. 

 

This season marks the last year that AHS will compete against 5A schools for a spot at the state meet. Next year, the UIL has added a division for the 1-4A schools.
